For scale: buying every US stock breakout from 2018 to 2026 with no selection returned a median −22.6% a year later, measured on the 14,674 with a full twelve months of data. How it was measured

In May 2025 EchoStar, the satellite-TV and wireless company controlled by Charlie Ergen, was under an FCC investigation into whether it had met the 5G build-out obligations for its spectrum, and it delayed an interest payment. The shares fell to $17.53 intraday that month. On 26 August 2025 AT&T agreed to buy about 50 MHz of EchoStar's spectrum for about $23 billion in cash, and the stock rose about 70% that day.

In September 2025 SpaceX agreed to buy further spectrum for about $17 billion in cash and SpaceX stock, and in November it added a purchase of about $2.6 billion in stock. The operating business shrank: full-year 2025 revenue fell about 5%. The stock finished +378% in calendar 2025 and set its high in May 2026. SpaceX went public on 12 June 2026, and EchoStar fell 4.8% that day. The ticker changed to ECHO on 24 June, and by July 2026 the shares traded below $85.
