Weekly bars for Monster Beverage (MNST), 2002 to 2016, log scale, split-adjusted, with the ignition bar marked.

Hansen Natural, later renamed Monster Beverage, was a small maker of smoothies, juices and natural sodas, with net sales of $92.0 million in 2002. In April 2002 it launched Monster Energy in 16-ounce cans. On 13 November 2003 the company reported third-quarter net sales up 23.4% to $33.3 million and net income up 64.8%, and credited the strength of its Monster Energy drinks. In 2004 net sales rose 63% to $180.3 million.

By 2007 net sales had reached $904.5 million and net income $149.4 million. The shares went through several long declines along the way. In August 2014 Coca-Cola agreed to take a 16.7% stake for $2.15 billion in net cash and to swap brands: Coca-Cola's energy drinks moved to Monster, and Monster's non-energy lines, including Hansen's sodas, moved to Coca-Cola. Adjusted for the splits in between, the stock rose 810× from the February 2003 low to the December 2015 high.
